Spit swallow up Hong Kong! We cheer up Hong Kong!

One of a common expression said “If every Chinese people spit on you, you must be died by drowned”. This inspires me to do an installation to express this phenomenon in Hong Kong. I am a Hong Kong people. I bore in Hong Kong. I live in Hong Kong. I love Hong Kong. But, I found that Hong Kong is gradually not “Hong Kong”. When I go shopping everywhere in Hong Kong, you can see so many Chinese people. When I have dinner in restaurant, you can hear so many people speak Putonghua. Even in City University, I am also studying with so many Chinese students. I have a feeling that Hong Kong is going to be sunk. Hong Kong is gradually losing its specific characteristic, culture and spirit. What is Hong Kong? Where is Hong Kong? Who is Hong Kong? I want to cheer up all Hong Kong people to show our Hong Kong spirit to protect our Hong Kong.

The style of the project is artistic and visualize. For the illustration, I would like to use webcam to track people pass-by my installation, when people detected, there are some water-drops jumping out. The water represents spit from Chinese people. When the water is accumulated, a Hong Kong domain would be sinking in the water. A Hong Kong domain represents Hong Kong, included Hong Kong characteristic, culture and spirit. In addition, I would like make a website for it to appeal more people to notice this crisis to save Hong Kong. To increase the investment for the visitors on my website, I would like to make interactivity with them on the website. Let’s visitors do some physical actions on the website to represent their love, care and support to save Hong Kong. The website would show the real-state of the installation. Visitors/ browsers can blow on the microphone from the website to show their support, which liked "打打氣". So that, the Hong Kong domain at the installation part would be lift-up (far away from the water). As this support action is on the internet, so that people can show their support everywhere, even at coffee shop, toilet, or on the street.
Technically, the project gives an attractive and innovative demonstration to audience. The sensor of the work would detect every audience pass through the installation. When each detect, the work would spit-out once. Audience can gain more and more impression and invention on my work. Moreover, the website can also promote and come into notice this crisis in Hong Kong.
The project aims to bring a strong reflection to audience. Is now a time to find Hong Kong characteristic? Is now a time to protect Hong Kong culture? Is now a time to show Hong Kong spirit? It is an impressive and interactive way to demonstrate to audience. the project must be discussing to public. Let's people think. Let's people introspect. Let's people improve.
